ABOUT THE ARTIST

Doug Lindstrand is a free-lance artist/photographer who makes his home in Alaska. Although he has published numerous books of "outside" wildlife, his primary subjects are the people and wildlife of America's "Last Frontier".

After graduation from college in Minnesota and after his military service, Doug moved to Alaska in 1970; having first visited the State a few years prior enroute to a tour in Vietnam. Alaska was a place that had both wilderness and wildlife, and seemed to exhibit a sense of freedom for its citizens. It was a perfect place for a "starving artist" to begin a career.

Doug's books range from art reference books to Alaska books. His "Alaska Sketchbook", for instance, is a portfolio of art and photographs of the people and wildlife of Alaska (with text by the Alaska Department of Fish & Game); whereas his recent "Drawing Mammals" book is an artist/carvers reference guide of America's twenty "favorite" large wildlife mammals.

Limited-edition art prints as well as series of Alaska note cards and Christmas Cards are also published by Sourdough Studio. Prints and cards are "Made in Alaska".
